Malay Reserve Land (MRL) or Tanah Rizab Melayu is a type of land that is often mistaken as Bumi Lot. However, under the Malay Reservation Enactment 1913, MRL can only be owned and held by the Malays. This means non-Malays are not allowed to rent, build properties and operate businesses on MRL. The major difference between a Bumi Lot and a Malay Reserve Land is the latter CANNOT be charged to a non-Malay individual/ corporate entity.
